In the time of the Fall of Roman Britain England or Britannia as the Romans called it was being invaded by barbarians called Angles, Saxons and Jutes. These came from the continent of Norther Europe across the English Channel and the Baltic Sea.
At first they came to rob and later they came to settle the island. These gave the area along the sea it’s name-The Saxon Shore. The Roman army in England left for good in or about the 425 A.D. With the Roman army gone the local people had to defend the island against many different barbarian invaders. Eventually the island would be called Saxon England.
